Alas, Return from Hiatus

Dearest readers...(hmm..lol),

As a historian, it is hard to not realize that history is happening everyday. The topic for today, has been the topic of discussion for many weeks.

The Mosque.

If you're keeping up with current events you know that there is a Muslim group who is attempting to build a mosque near ground zero. As you know, many people are outraged at the very thought of this taking place. Some say "It's un-american to do this!" and others say "Freedom of Religion." I am not completely on one side. 9/11 was a terrible time in our history, many lives were lost. What we must remember is, Islam did not attack us. Islam did not hijack our planes. We are not fighting against Islam. It is absurd for politicians (who mind you, are supposed to understand what civil rights are...and freedom of religion seems pretty clear cut to me) to say that they should not build a mosque.

My stance is understand the sensitivity, yes we are not at war with Islam...but a Mosque should not go by the 9/11 site. It does seem as though they do not grasp why the Mosque should not be there. YES! celebrate your religion and practice it!! Please do!! However, I believe it's more about understanding what a majority of the people are saying..and that is, while we may not be at war against Islam, the sentiments should be understood.

Thoughts??
